Sparky Bayama Wins Wednesday Feature; Accident Sends Driver to Hospital

Summerside, PE – Sparky Bayama and driver Mike Stevenson won the Wednesday night feature race at Red Shores Summerside in 1:57.2. The Jean Belliveau owned pacer came first up to tackle stable-mate BJ Cruiser, who laid down fractions of 28, 58.4, and 1:27.4, before surging to the front. Rambarononbroadway (Jason Hughes) was second while Blu Meadow Willie (Robert MacInnis) was third.

Casual Motion, with owner-driver Joey Pineau in the bike, recorded their third win a row on the program.

Racing officials declared race 7 a no contest after an accident as the field was on route to the opening quarter. Traffic was tight and Acton Overeasy went off stride on the front end. The backfield couldn’t avoid the breaking horse. Driver Philip Doucette, who was aboard Farmers Glory, was shaken up from the mishap. Doucette was transported to the Prince County Hospital to be checked over by the medical team. No other horse or driver injuries were reported.

Racing returns Thursday at 7pm to Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park featuring the $100,000 Dash for Cash promotion.
