Arabica Headlines Saturday's Feature Race; Red Shores Summerside Kicks Off Season Sunday
Charlottetown, PE – Arabica is listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite in the Saturday night feature at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Post time is 6pm. The Wendell Shaw Pace highlights opening night Sunday at Red Shores Summerside. Post time is 6:30pm.
Arabica, who recorded the fastest mile on PEI this year, starts from post 6 in the 11th race event for trainer Anthony Stymest and the Hardy Mill Stable of Stratford. The son of Pro Bono Best cruised to a 1:56 victory last week for Kenny Arsenault. This week Jason Hughes gets the driving assignment after coming off a two win performance on Thursday’s card. The line-up includes from the rail out newcomer Eww That Smell, (Mike Stevenson),Unstoppable Speed (Corey MacPherson), Matt Trapper (Brian Andrew), Carnivore (John Holmes) and Outlawpositivcharg (Terry Gallant).
Red Shores Summerside is celebrating the launch of the 2012 season with a terrific night of racing, fan promotions and a special appreciation dinner and race to Commissioner Wendell Shaw. Shaw wraps up his term after nine years on the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission. It would be a special touch if Highland Gladiator, owned by Highland Thoroughbred Farms, Inglewood, Ontario and trained by Shaw, could deliver as the morning line favorite in race 9. Kenny Arsenault will handle the six-year-old gelding from the rail position.
Bet The House, Casual Motion and Blue Meadow Willie are the leading candidates in the Summerside top class in race 10. Race analyst Jared Stretch returns to the legendary oval for 2012. Stretch and race secretary Gerard Smith unveil their choices during the live race programs. Smith has selected Bet The House while Stretch leans on Blue Meadow Willie while pointing out he hits the board 65% of the time.
The Prince County Horsemen’s Club has organized a special blessing of the track, drivers, trainers and horses ceremony by Rev. Arthur Davies at 6:15pm. Each winning driver will receive a special gift from Greenhawk Track Supplies while Cerretti Grocery & Hardware will sponsor race 3 on the opening night card.
