Painted Desert Claims Red Shores Feature
Charlottetown, PE – Painted Desert, with Nick Oakes in the bike, won the Thursday night feature in 1:58 flat at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Last Art on Deck was second for Jason Hughes while Zanzibar, under the command of Marc Campbell, completed the top three.
Oakes, who co-owns the pacer with Visigoth Racing Stable of Mississauga, Ontario, put the six-year-old gelding in the pocket stalking Last Art on Deck through fractions of 29.2, 100.1 and 1:29.2 before overpowering the pace setter in deep stretch for the victory.
Saulsbrook Balance and driver Willie Murphy remain undefeated this season after winning the Open Trot class in 2:02.1 The trotter, who has won three in a row, is owned by Tanya MacKinnon of Souris and Cindy MacDonald of Montague. MacDonald is also the trainer. Dunmore Alpha and Ted Smallwood won the other trot class on the night in 2:04.
Jason Hughes, Kenny Arsenault and Corey MacPherson had driving doubles on the card.
Racing returns on Saturday in Charlottetown featuring the Cecil Ladner Memorial Pacing Series and the Maritime Breeders Eliminations. Post time is 6pm. Red Shores Summerside stages a 12 dash card on Sunday. Post time is 1pm.
