Charlottetown, PE – It was a history making night Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino.
Windemere Express toured the legendary Charlottetown Driving Park oval in a career best of 1:55.2 in one division of the Cecil Ladner Memorial Pacing Series. John Holmes did the driving for trainer Earl Watts and owner John Thompson of Charlottetown. The mile was the fastest in the Maritimes this season. Arabica, with Jason Hughes in the bike, won the other Ladner division in 1:56 for the Hardy Mill Stable of Stratford.
The card featured the Maritime Breeders Eliminations with A As Glory and Danny Romo taking the first filly elimination in 1:59.3. The victory was Romo’s 3,500 career win in the bike. A special trackside presentation was made to the NS pilot who now joins an elite club with Gilles Barrieau and Steve Mahar as most of their wins came in the Maritimes.
Malabrigo remains undefeated this season as trainer-driver Marc Campbell guided her to a fourth length triumph in the second MBA elimination while Southfield Sophie notched her third win in a row for Southfield Farms of Summerside. Terry Gallant did the driving.
Mr Thompson, with Mike Stevenson at the controls, and Lyndale Royal, under the command of Brodie MacPhee, won their respective colt divisions.
