Blue Star Outlaw Draws the Rail in Red Shores Feature
Charlottetown, PE – Blue Star Outlaw and driver Jason Hughes drew the rail in the afternoon $2,200 feature event Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Post time is 1pm for the 13 dash card.
The eight horse line-up also includes, in post position order, Stress Buster (pp2), CL Eighty (pp3), Camcun (pp4), Oakrock Almighty (pp5) Joseph Michael (pp6), Big League (pp7), Block Party (pp8).
Joseph Michael, owned by Capital A Investments Ltd and Valerie Phelan, NB, has been established as 5-2 morning line favorite by race secretary Gerard Smith. Mike Stevenson gets the call to drive from trainer Eric Wilson. Stevenson engineered a second and fourth place finish in his last two starts with the six-year-old horse charted in a brisk 1:58.1. Race analyst Les MacIsaac has Camcun listed as his top choice. Block Party has back to back winning performances and conditioner Darren Trainer has hired Brodie MacPhee to handle the daughter of Western Terror. His regular pilot Marc Campbell has booked off all drives for the day. Oakrock Almighty moves up to the feature after winning his last two for trainer Jackie Matheson and driver Ron Matheson.
In other action, Hall Trot (Todd Walsh) and JK Queen (Mike Stevenson) are early favorites in the $1,300 trot class in race 4. The race could be dubbed the battle of the Smallwoods with Joe sending out JK Queen while his brother Edward drives Dunmore Alpha from post 5. Napanee Seelster, who made an uncharacteristic break last week, should be back in form for Danny MacDonald and his co-owners Philip Pitts and William Andrew of Calgary, Alberta. Andrew shares ownership with Warrawee Jade who leaves from post two for Brian Andrew. Shezatramp and Delta Dental complete the field.
Marc Campbell added another trophy to his mantle after claiming top spot in the Trot Challenge presented by Johnston’s Salads and Keybrand Foods Inc. The season long competition is targeted for drivers of trotters at the Charlottetown oval.
Details are being released on the $100,000 World Handicapping Contest. The qualifying rounds begin on February 7 and continue to March 28, 2013. The winner receives a trip to the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey and a seat in the 2013 PEI Poker Challenge.
