Bettim Theresa Goes for Fourth Win a Row; Cancum and Joseph Michael Battle in Feature

Charlottetown, PE – Bettim Theresa puts her winning streak on the line Saturday during the 13 dash race program at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino. The CDP oval has opening post time set at 1pm. All the action will be carried via the world broadcast at www.redshores.ca

The Jeff Lilley trainee has won her last three starts since returning from Rideau Carleton in Ottawa and remains perfect in the short 2013 campaign for owner Danny Purcell of Newport, N.S. John Holmes, who won the Gold Cup in 1999, has engineered the hat trick and will guide the four-year-old mare from post 4. Lilley will drive his other trainee, Mattadors Rose, in the same race from post 5 for Lynn Morgan Titus of Calgary, Alberta. Brandon Webster’s C L Bella Rose and Margen Sandpiper from the Stacey Lund stable are considered triactor candidates in race 5 which is the start of the Super Pack promotion for on track players.

Cancum with Kenny Arsenault in the bike and Joseph Michael, driven by Mike Stevenson, will square off in the afternoon $2,200 feature in race 11. Both horses put in monster miles last week but faded in deep stretch to winner Blue Star Outlaw (Jason Hughes) and runner up Big League (Mark Bradley). Block Party, who had broken gear last week and a bad post position, draws inside this week while Oakrock Almighty, from the Jackie Matheson stable, is more than capable of pulling out a victory. The son of Rambaran made 34 starts in 2012 and banked $13,853 for owners Jack Keenan, Stratford and Joseph Dahl, Burlington, Ontario.

In other action, JPS Cadet is the morning line favorite to kick off the Pick 6 promotion for trainer Melissa Rennie. Mark Bradley, who’s been red hot in early going, will do the driving for the Rennie stable of Elmsdale while trainer Ron Gass sends out three from his Cornwall stable in the $1,500 Trot feature. Gass will drive favorite Caliban Hanover while Corey MacPherson handles Delta Dental and Warrawee Jade gets the services of Brian Andrew off the rail. Zip the Lip trainer by Don Sweet of O’Leary and JK Queen, from the Joe Smallwood stable, are considered top contenders.

The $100,000 World Handicapping Contest will begin with qualifying rounds on February 7 at Red Shores Summerside and Charlottetown locations.  The winner, who will be determined on March 28, 2013, receives a trip to the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey and a seat in the PEI Poker Challenge.
